The Engine Company Circuit
Friday, July 20, 2012 The Engine Company sets the tone for the entire fireground operation and its firefighters should be ready to flow meticulously without fatigue. Stretching the line to the seat of the fire and making a knock on a well advanced fire can save civilian and firefighters lives. Take the fire away and the rest of the problems will go away making everyon...e’s job safer and easier. But these can be rigorous tasks that require a great deal anaerobic capacity and muscle memory for specific movements. Here is a specific workout geared and timed for the engine company firefighter. What you will need: 1. 100’ of 1”3/4 hose 2. 150’ of 3” supply line 3. 50’ of 3” supply line wrapped into a high rise style rack 4. 50’ of 1”3/4 hose tied to two small car tires 5. One Truck sized tire to strike with an 8-10 lb sledge 6. Turnout Gear and SCBA 7. 104’ feet of flat space to set up the time trial The FireFighter will ready himself at the simulated hand jack supply line station and at the timers command he will jack the 150’ section of hose 104’ and then pull the rest till the supply line is straightened out (see video). The FireFighter will then pull his simulated attack line drag until the two tires have traveled 100’. The next step of the course will be to run 100’, pick up an additional rack of hose to simulate an extension and lunge it 41’ to simulate stairs of a garden apartment. After lunging 41’ the FireFighter will take off and take the hose to the end of the 104’ course drop the rack and get on air. After on air the FireFighter will pull 100’ of attack line around a point of resistance to simulate hose management and rounding corners. After this the FireFighter will strike a truck tire 10xs with a 8 to 10 pound sledge to simulate forcible entry to the apartment on fire. Saturday, July 7, 2012 Friday, July 6, 2012 This week, FF Jacob Bachman began a work out exercise program at the firehouse modeled after the Firefighter Fit program. This program involves working out using standard firefighting equipment and scenarios and firefighter specific tasks. The workout starts with a mile run or walk followed by 9 different stations, some of which are 100' hose drag, 110 pound dummy drag, high rise pack carry, lunges, hose burners, tire strike, ladder lifts, and hose lift. The members and guests that attended had a great time working out together. Keep an eye on the station bulletin board and this site for future sessions. We invite anyone to come and train with us.
