This am units from Susquehanna Township and the Harrisburg Bureau of Fire were dispatched to the 22/322 ramp from 81 North for a reported accident with injuries and fire. Units from the Uptown Station of Harrisburg City, Wagon 3 and Tower 3 arrived first and found a tanker truck rolled over and on fire with a massive running fuel fire.
The burning run off was dropping down on to the highway below through drainage run offs causing panic on the roadways below. A unified command had to be quickly established between Fire and the Pennsylvania State Police to control and re-route rush hour traffic. The incident quickly escalated to multijurasdictional incident to mitigate this major incident that snarled traffic in the Harrisburg area for the am commute.
First arriving units lead off with deck guns and large lines, a rural water set up was then established due to lack of close hydrants. Foam units from surrounding areas were also special called to the scene.
